This tattered scroll is written in an old, retired dialect. When successfully read aloud, this scroll will disintegrate and release an unknown magical energy. The next creature the caster touches begins to be encased in old cloth, seemingly appearing from thin air. They must make a DC 15 dexterity saving throw or become restrained in this cloth. If they fail the save a second time they are fully encased in material.
The cloth has an AC of 10 and 50 hit points and will regenerate 5 hit points every turn that it has hit points remaining. When the cloth reaches 0 hit points it is destroyed and ceases to become magical.
An excellent way to put this to use is having the players stumble upon it as loot from an old derelict mansion or tomb and not being able to work out what it does until it’s used, springing them into a strange encounter. It could be even more disastrous to include multiple scrolls to be found.
A villain could trick townsfolk into thinking these are for a different purpose only to have havoc break all over as people activate them.
This particular gold coin features a strange decorative engraving of a faded family crest. This coin once belonged to a vampire lord from centuries ago, who stamped all the currency in their castle with this crest to ensure it could always be found if ever stolen. Some of these coins are now in circulation after treasure hunters and explorers found and subsequently spent them in the surrounding areas.
Many hundreds of years later, the players now find themselves in possession of one or more of these coins as a descendant is awakened and tasked with tracking them all down and reclaiming them for the family. When the vampire and/or their servants are within 1 mile of a coin, they know its exact location.
Maybe they can be reasoned with or perhaps they take an aggressive ‘ask questions never’ stance and launch a surprise attack in the dead of night.
This necklace features a detailed stone totem of a gargoyle on a thick silver chain. After identification, when worn, this necklace gives a bonus +1 to AC. An additional property not picked up through magical identification is that once a day, a stone structure within 1 mile of the wearer either changes an existing statue into a gargoyle or creates a new one if none exist.
A good twist is to have the gargoyles have a waiting period before activating so the players leave a trail of destruction without knowing about it until they hear stories and put the information together.
